Submarines have the ability to submerge and emerge and they have a small healthpool as well, meaning it is dangerous to engage an enemy if they are aware of you.

These missiles are able to be used underwater, but are generally not that threatening unless the enemy is at low health. The submarines at the end of the line are also equipped with a small amount of ship-to-ship missile launchers. They don't do much, but they're useful for taking down vessels that are too fast and are able to dodge your torpedoes, such as Patrol Boats. They're also armed with light turrets that only fire when you're surfaced. They can surface and deal massive damage to unsuspecting surface vessels, though they're susceptible to surface fire such as shells and torpedoes by then, so you'll have to quickly submerge again to avoid being detected right after.

Submarines are vessels capable of submerging underwater and avoiding a majority of surface attacks in the game, while also staying out of radar detection of enemy vessels until they resurface, making them the stealthiest vessels in the game as they're capable of resurfacing in unexpected locations and are known to be an annoyance for their massive damage outputs.
